Luang Namtha

Overview

Introduction

This sleepy town located in the mountainous north of Laos and 433 mi/700 km north of Vientiane is a good stopping-off point if you intend to continue on to Muang Sing or the border with China. Luang Namtha doesn't have a great deal to offer, but is pleasant enough and a good base for trekking in the area since it is close to Namtha National Park. There are many hill tribes in the area including Linten, Kamu and Akha. A handful of decent hotels and guesthouses, some great little restaurants and a good morning market make it a pleasant town to relax in for a few days.
