Marsabit Natl Reserve

Marsabit Natl Reserve

Overview

Introduction

This oasis in the northern Kenya desert, 250 mi/400 km northeast of Nairobi, is shaded by a forested mountain and offers a view of crater lakes, including the appropriately named Lake Paradise. You'll see herds of elephants and greater kudu, lots of birds and leopards (if you're lucky). Nearby are the singing wells. During dry times of the year, local Boran herders form a human chain to draw water from the wells, singing while they work. You should get there early if you want to see and hear them: The herders take their animals there right after dawn.
