Weifang, China, in the Shandong province, is famous for its long kite-making history and outstanding craftsmanship. Both kite lovers and families can join representatives from a number of different countries and regions for the annual kite competition each April. For this reason, the city has been dubbed the kite capital of the world.
Located in the financial district, the Weifang Kite Museum, one of the largest kite museums in the world, has a sprawling display of unique and colorful kites. The adjoining square makes a pleasant spot to watch old men play chess, buy a kite or simply people-watch.
