Moundou

Moundou

Overview

Introduction

Chad's second-largest city is currently experiencing a revival because of the oil rush from the Doba basin. Although it has a couple of lively markets and a few good restaurants and bars, Moundou is better known as the home of the Gala Brewery, which produces some of the best beer in the country. The city also hosts large cotton and cigarette factories. Moundou sits on the left bank of the Longone River, which flows north toward N'Djamena, delineating Chad's western border with Cameroon for much of its length. The colorful market fills a big city block between the river and the central business district. Moundou's finest restaurant is at Hotel La Residence between the brewery and cotton factory. Moundou is 248 mi/400 km south of N'Djamena.
