Gabrovo

Gabrovo

Overview

Introduction

Located in the middle of Bulgaria's Balkan Mountains, halfway between Sofia and the Black Sea coast, 124 mi/200 km from Sofia, the town of Gabrovo is surrounded by lots of greenery and is noted for its Bulgarian National Revival architecture.

Its most unique feature, however, is the Ethno Village Etar complex, which is an open-air museum consisting of authentic 18th- and 19th-century houses, historic water mills and traditional craftsmen demos.

Also worth a visit is the nearby Museum Architectural Reserve Bozhentsi, which is a 600-year-old town turned open-air museum.
