Lipica

Lipica

Overview

Introduction

The 400-year-old farm of Lipica, Slovenia, is the home of the world-famous Lipizzan horses. The stables, opened by Austrian Archduke Karl in the 1580s, continue to breed some of the best horses in the world. Visit the stables and the riding school (which has pony rides for children), then tour the countryside in one of the antique coaches. During the summer, the Lipizzan horses perform several times a week.

Lipica is located 40 mi/60 km southwest of Ljubljana near Sezana in the Karst region, a part of the country that contains thousands of caves. The best caves are Skocjan (a UNESCO natural monument) and Postojna.
