Vila Do Conde, Portugal, is located 20 mi/30 km north of Porto. The town has a wide beach with crashing waves, a cluster of good seafood restaurants, a pretty convent and a local craft tradition of lace woven in intricate patterns.
Povoa de Varzim, a glitzy modern resort area with casino and shows, is nearby. And just to the north of Vila do Conde are the quieter resort towns of Esposende and Ofir, both of which have adequate beaches.
