Kerman

Kerman

Overview

Introduction

Kerman is a world-famous carpet town, although because of the lack of tourist trade, the city today has a very limited number of carpet shops. Spend a day exploring the Friday Mosque, lofty citadels, the bazaar, the historical museum (once a public bath) and the Sheketeh Farsh carpet factory. Note the Moshtaghiyen patterned domes. You'll see large slogans painted on the cliff overlooking the martyrs' cemetery: "God Is Great" and "Death to America." A possible day trip from Kerman is to Mahan, a lovely small town on the road to Bam, noted for its wonderful mausoleum and gardens. Go up on the roof of the mausoleum or climb the minarets for a good view of the town and surrounding mountains. Kerman is 670 mi/1,075 km southeast of Tehran.
