Overview

Introduction

In Kainantu, on the Highlands Highway east of Goroka, you'll find the Eastern Highlands Cultural Centre (shopping and demonstrations of handicraft-making). Nearby is Ukarumpa, a fairly large missionary community connected to the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL). (SIL has many components, but perhaps its main objective is to develop written records of PNG's hundreds of languages and dialects.) Western delicacies such as M&Ms can be found in the Ukarumpa store. 205 mi/330 km northwest of Port Moresby.
