Hornafjordur

Hornafjordur

Overview

Introduction

Hofn is a small fishing town in the southeast of Iceland. It's a good place to stock up on supplies. Hofn's main draw is its proximity to the beautiful natural wonders of Vatnajokull and Jokulsarlon, as well as being the key entrance point into the East Fjords. Hofn's small airport serves domestic flights from Reykjavik.

There are a few shops, as well as some hotels within and just outside of town. Gamlabud, one of the oldest houses in Hofn and a main trade post for the area, is now an information center. The Hofn Glacier Museum teaches visitors all about local geology and ecology.

The annual lobster festival is celebrated on the first weekend of July.
