Haderslev, Denmark, is a quaint little town in southern Jutland, 125 mi/200 km southwest of Copenhagen and well off the beaten path. It's not touristy, and its museums, streets, park and cathedral merit a visit. Just outside town is Haderslev Dam, a good place for canoeing and a nice area for hikes. When you are visiting the city, make sure to stop by the Gothic Haderslev Cathedral. There is also much history to experience while you are in Haderslev. Visit Gram Castle, one of the largest buildings from the Middle Ages in Denmark. Public guided tours are offered year-round, including an extra Ghost Tour held on Friday evenings. You can also visit the archaeology museum to learn more about the ancient history of the area, or the town museum to learn about its not-so-ancient history.
Haderslev has natural beauty to offer, as well. Just a few miles south of the city you can find the Haderslev Deer Park. Established in 1994, the park is home to around 200 fallow deer, and around 70 are born each year. The park is a great place to take an afternoon walk and see the wild deer up close.
