Figueira da Foz

Figueira da Foz

Overview

Introduction

The coastal town of Figueira da Foz, Portugal, about midway between Lisbon and Porto, is a pleasant beach resort with a casino.

Interesting sights include the interior of Casa do Paco, which is adorned with thousands of delft tiles, courtesy of a 17th-century shipwreck. The Museu Municipal Dr. Santos Rocha has an interesting archaeological collection.

The Boa Viagem mountains overlooking Figueira's wide expanse of beach contain a treetop adventure park and offer a shady respite for picnics during summer months. To the south, a series of salt pans in the wetlands attract flamingos and other birdlife, as well as visitors interested in learning more about salt production at the small museum.
