Overview

Introduction

In northern Sind Province, this ancient capital (pop. 159,000) is now a thriving city on the Indus River. Religious sites abound: Climb the Masum Shah Minaret and visit the tomb of Shah Khairuddin Jilani (both are on the north side of town). There are some interesting old buildings on Bukker Island (in the Indus River), and the neighborhood of Rohri on the southern bank of the river has wooden houses with carved facades. Also in Rohri are the Jamia Mosque and the Shrine of War Mubarak, where a sacred hair of the Prophet Muhammad is kept. 225 mi/360 km northeast of Karachi.
