Overview

Introduction

Established in 1700 as an English Quaker settlement, 30 mi/50 km south of Wilmington, this town contains many fine examples of Federal and Victorian architecture. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, a 15,980-acre/6,465-hectare haven for migrating and resident waterfowl, is just 8 mi/13 km to the west. Hiking, bird-watching and touring the 18th-century Allee House are popular activities there.
