Overview

Introduction

The central Chilean city of Concepcion, 320 mi/515 km southwest of Santiago, and its port of Talcahuano are an industrial powerhouse, but the presence of several universities gives the conurbation an active cultural life. The Universidad de Concepcion's Casa de Arte has impressive murals and other art collections. Talcahuano's naval base features a historic 19th-century ironclad captured from the Peruvians in the War of the Pacific.
