Columbus

Columbus

Overview

Introduction

Ohio's capital has long lingered in the shadow of its better-known sister cities. And although it may lack a geographic focus like Cincinnati's Ohio River and Cleveland's Lake Erie, it has an economic focus that should make those industrial cities green with envy: Its high-tech industry continues to expand.

Columbus is the largest city in the world named after the controversial explorer, Christopher Columbus. Until 2011, one of the city's most popular attractions was a full-size replica of Columbus' three-masted flagship, the Santa Maria, which was permanently moored downtown on the Scioto River following the 1992 festivities commemorating the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World. Because of a lack of funding for its upkeep, the ship has since been dismantled.

While you're downtown, consider driving by the gracefully proportioned Statehouse.
