Cesme

Cesme

Overview

Introduction

Although the small town of Cesme, Turkey, which is 360 mi/590 km west of Ankara, has its share of beach houses and hotels, its old quarter still retains an attractive and relaxing atmosphere—at least when the summer hordes haven't descended.

There are several beaches, some with warm springs (the word cesme means "fountain"), a nice castle and a waterfront lined with restaurants.

Cesme is a good place to visit if you want to take a break from traveling. It's also a jumping-off point for ferries to Chios in Greece. These days, however, the upscale accommodations and restaurants in nearby Alacati are probably more appealing. There are also lovely sandy beaches a short ride away at Altinkum.
