Bellows Falls

Bellows Falls

Overview

Introduction

At Bellows Falls, 130 mi/210 km southeast of Burlington, the Connecticut River funnels dramatically through a narrow gorge. Once a center of industry, the town is best known as home of the Green Mountain Flyer train ride: This 26-mi/42-km route, which runs late June to mid-October, allows visitors to take in the scenic countryside while riding in historic rail cars pulled by a locomotive from the 1930s.

While in Bellows Falls, look for the Native American petroglyphs along the riverbank below Vilas Bridge, and stop at the Adams Old Stone Gristmill Museum, which displays antique farm implements, milling machinery and railroad memorabilia.
