Lower Zambezi Natl Park

Lower Zambezi Natl Park

Overview

Introduction

One of Zambia's newest parks, this is a great area for canoe trips. The river is wide and slow but full of wildlife, especially hippos. You'll also see Cape buffalo, elephants, lions, impala, waterbuck, crocodiles, zebra and plenty of birds, including fish eagles. The park is open April-October, but the best time for wildlife viewing is June-September. Anglers will find the best fishing in September and October. Despite the relative lack of development in the park, there is a good selection of lodges and tent camps, including some that are on par with the better accommodations in South Luangwa National Park. 185 mi/240 km east of Lusaka.
