Marghilan

Overview

Introduction

Compared with its neighbor Ferghana, Marghilan is an older, more traditional Uzbek town. It has the largest and most famous silk factory in the country (tours are offered). The bazaar is also an interesting sight. This is a great place to buy silk carpets, and interested visitors should keep an eye out for the delicate, precious "atlas" fabric. Before traveling to Marghilan, or anywhere else in the Ferghana Valley, check on the current political situation. About 125 mi/200 km southeast of Tashkent.
