Introduction

In Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), gleaming modernism coexists with rich traditions of West Africa. Impenetrable forests adjoin cultivated fields, and wild game parks lie just minutes from bustling cities. For years, Cote d'Ivoire's combination of modern comforts, local cultures and untamed land made it one of the safest and most convenient countries for travelers in West Africa.

Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. An apparent coup attempt has triggered fighting between coup leaders and government troops. Nonresidents have been evacuated from the country, and the U.S. and Canadian governments are advising their citizens not to travel there at this time. We concur.
