Avalon’s Active & Discovery: Our Readers Chime In

Britton’s recent story about Avalon struck a chord with readers. Responding to 5 Ways Avalon Waterways Goes Above & Beyond, which Britton wrote after her May Danube sailing on Avalon View, our friend Ben Rich was one of several readers who felt compelled to write about his experience on Avalon. 

Ben and his traveling companion Lynn escorted a group on a Christmas Market cruise this past December. “It was everything you wrote about – and more,” Ben said, referencing Britton’s post. “We knew we were going to like Avalon the moment we walked on the boat.”

And walking on the boat, in fact, was a big part of the story, because Ben, Lynn and four others who they were escorting were delayed by three hours getting to Vienna. Arriving to the boat so late, they would definitely miss dinner. 

Lynn rang the boat to let them know that they’d be arriving late but would greatly appreciate a snack when they arrived. “Turns out there was another couple on our flight we didn’t know about – but Avalon was aware,” Ben said. “Their cab pulled up just as we were unloading at the boat.”

When Ben and his crew pulled up to the dock, crew came out in mass to assist with luggage. The cruise director welcomed the six tired travelers, plus the other late arriving couple, and asked if they wanted to eat in their cabins or in the lounge. 

“Sheesh, already with the decisions,” Ben joked. “We said lounge and when we walked in, we were greeted by a beautiful setup of 8 salads, 8 FANTASTIC sandwich plates including a veggie plate for Lynn, and 8 desserts. The waiters were very quick in pouring wine and we all agreed that we had never had a better boarding experience.”

In Ben’s email to us, he said when he and Lynn saw Britton’s story, they wondered if she was gong to mention the bedding menu. It was, in fact, one of the five ways that Avalon went above & beyond for her – and all guests – in her story.

 “It was a great experience, and Avalon won us over by a landslide, Ben said. “While we don’t have any river cruises on the calendar, you can bet Avalon will be the first we consider when we head back.”
