Twenty-Four Hours At 25Hours Hotel Copenhagen

For an incredibly cool, hip, and colorful hotel in Copenhagen's heart, 25Hours Hotel Copenhagen is a real gem. Direct metro service from Copenhagen's airport takes 15-minutes to the Norreport exit, then an easy five-minute walk brings you to 25Hours front door.

This is really a "feel good" property with actual and subliminal messages everywhere. The hotel entrance welcome mat states, "Hello stranger" on entry, and "goodbye friend" on exit. Embroidered guest room pillows have pithy sayings such as, "Almost home," and "Let's spend the night together." Even their high speed Wi-Fi states on connection that "25Hours loves you." With all this affection it is hard not to feel very welcome.

25Hours opened in March 2022 though the main building originated in 1885. It was formerly a porcelain then paper factory, then part of Copenhagen University, where study options were theology or law. 25Hours is chock-full of character where the theme is “fun no matter your age.” Typical guests says General Manager Lise Egenius (her real name), "are curious ones."

It's hard to imagine a more perfect location, only a few feet from Kobmagergade, Copenhagen's main pedestrian shopping street, and a short, pleasant stroll to instagram-worthy City Hall and Tivoli Gardens. If you're headed onward for a cruise, or want to stay awhile following a cruise and take a Danish detour, the cruise terminal is only 20-minutes away.

Wonderful To Stay, Hard To Leave

The reception area has full skylights and magnificent "tree of knowledge" books sculpture and a "love letter bureau" with old-fashioned manual typewriters. There are also several chic seating areas with beautifully designed furnishings and artwork. Another wall bears LP covers that leads into another nook with bean chairs and a working LP player to drive guests down memory lane. 

The Assembly Bar just off the lobby was originally used as courtyard parking. Full ceiling sky lights bring light in during the day and star reflection at night. Colorful tapestries made by Finnish artist Kustaa Saksi line the walls of The Assembly Bar continuing the Danish tradition of historical story telling through weaving.  

For those who want to quietly contemplate their good fortune in being in Denmark generally, and at 25Hours Copenhagen specifically, there is even a Secret Garden on the European first floor.

To rid yourself of all those Danish pastries, there is a small gym called "Well-being" with Technogym equipment and free weights with large windows. Also an adjacent locker room with showers and an outdoor solarium and sauna. For those guests arriving early before check-in or departing late after check-out time, there is a "power shower" room on the same level. 

The Bed

Of the 243 rooms – ranging from 160 square feet to 550 – 18 are small/medium singles, 113 are medium with queen size beds, 92 are large with king-sized beds, 17 are extra-large suites with king-sized beds, and there are three gigantic suites with separate sitting areas and 1.5 bathrooms with bathtub. All rooms have flat screen TVs, AC, high speed Wi-Fi, complimentary mini-bar with water, beer, and Fritz coke, replenished daily, hardwood floors, multi-colored walls, and striped tiles.

Unique prints and artwork don the walls while my room even had a functioning turquoise throwback rotary phone. Most rooms have work stations and coffee/tea stations. Excellent bedding and 100-percent cotton sheets are designed to keep guests cozy during cold Danish winters. Everywhere you turn there's color, including the multi-colored painted hallways and the diagrammed carpet resembling professorial chemistry compositions. 

The Meals

Café Duse is a lovely spot with excellent coffees and cakes, and of course, Danish.  It is a great place for a quiet meeting or to socialize. There is live jazz on the first Sunday of the month at Café Duse. And for some toe-tapping tunes, the Boilerman Bar downstairs has a DJ on the third Thursday of every month.  

The lobby level Assembly Bar is another comfortable place to enjoy a coffee or a cocktail and small bites. And given the tapestries depicting historical events, it may be the only bar in the world where you leave smarter than when you arrived.

25Hours signature NENI Restaurant has delicious fare with Israeli, Romanian, and Spanish roots.  Try the grilled octopus with harissa and hummus platter with Mediterranean olives and warm-fresh-fromthe-oven fresh pita. When weather permits, the roof retracts so guests can dine under the stars. 

The Lesson Learned

Each 25Hours hotel is unique so the catchphrase is "You've seen one, you've seen none," is apropos as each hotel is unique and fully embraces the local demographic and its culture. There are 14 properties in Europe and one in Dubai to enjoy. Happy Travels!
