Alacahoyuk

Alacahoyuk

Overview

Introduction

Alacahoyuk, 100 mi/160 km east of Ankara and home of the imposing Sphinx Gate ruin, was a center of civilization during the Bronze Age—it is considered one of the most important ancient Hittite sites. Most of the gold and bronze objects that have been found in the area are now in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara, but there is a small, interesting museum at the site of Alacahoyuk's royal tombs.
