Overview

Introduction

The Mediterranean coast becomes less interesting as you drive east from Alanya, but Anamur, a town 160 mi/250 km east of Antalya, is worth a detour, especially in spring. That's when the area enclosed by the ruins of Byzantine Anamurium (just west of Alanya) is deep in wildflowers. Also nearby are the ruins of dramatic Mamure Castle. If you want to spend the night, the best accommodations are in the Iskele (harbor) area of Anamur rather than in the town itself.
