Tremezzo

Tremezzo

Overview

Introduction

Easily reached by boat from Lenno and Bellagio, popular Tremezzo is the center of beautiful Riviera Tremezzina. Located 19 mi/31 km from Como, it's sheltered by a headland and therefore enjoys a particularly balmy microclimate. That's why you can find olives, cypresses, oranges, palms, jasmine and even the equatorial rubber tree there.

Tremezzo offers tremendous panoramic views across the lake to Bellagio. It's no wonder that some of the most illustrious villas on Lake Como were built there, including the world-famous Villa Carlotta, the Villa La Quiete palazzo and the neighboring Villa Carlia, which has a beautiful park. A few steps from there, you can visit the Chiesa di San Lorenzo, which was rebuilt in the 19th century with a huge cupola.

Do not miss the public Parco Teresio Olivelli (also called Parco Mayer) situated right on the lake shore, with the peculiar Tarocchiera bar, where wealthy local families used to play tarot.

From Tremezzo, you can visit the hamlet of Rogaro, situated in cool Alpine pastures. Walk up to Monte Nava to enjoy the fabulous views. History buffs may want to visit Giulino di Mezzegra, where Italy's fascist dictator Benito Mussolini and his lover Clara Petacci, who had tried to flee to Switzerland, were executed on 28 April 1945 by partisan leader Walter Audisio at the gates of Villa Belmonte. http://www.tremezzo.it.
