Christianso

Christianso

Overview

Introduction

Long the cornerstone of Denmark's Baltic defenses, tiny Christianso (just 1 mi/2.5 km northeast of Bornholm Island) is still under the administration of the Ministry of Defense. This hasn't prevented it from becoming a popular destination for writers and painters, who have turned it into an unofficial artists colony as well.

Reachable by ferry from Bornholm, Christianso is a tranquil island with small towns and opportunities for biking and walking (the whole area can be walked in about 20 minutes). The island has no dogs, cars or modern buildings. Its main attractions are 18th-century houses, the pretty view from the lighthouse, and peace and quiet. You can stay overnight in the small hotel or campground.
