Booue

Booue

Overview

Introduction

This reserve is known for its population of lowland gorillas. It's the most convenient wildlife area for travelers staying in Libreville, where you can easily arrange a tour. (It's difficult to visit the reserve independently, as there are no accommodations, no camping allowed and you must have a vehicle.) Though some tours arrive in the morning and depart that evening, we suggest staying overnight in Booue, a beautiful town set in the jungle. That way, if you don't see any gorillas the first day, you can try again on the next. (Because the gorillas spend most of their time in dense forest, they can be hard to spot.) The reserve is also home to chimps, hippos, leopards and buffalo. 190 mi/305 km east of Libreville.
