Mudurnu

Mudurnu

Overview

Introduction

Named for the Byzantine princess Modrene, Mudurnu, Turkey, is a small town south of the main Istanbul-Ankara highway, 100 mi/160 km northwest of Ankara.

It's a good place for an overnight stop, with its beautifully preserved and decorated wooden houses from the Ottoman period, a lovely old Turkish bath, nearby Byzantine ruins and a lively bazaar.

It's also close to lovely Lake Abant, a great place to have fresh trout for lunch. There are several inviting accommodations in town, too. Visit soon before everyone discovers it.
