Overview

Introduction

In the southwest portion of the country (near the border with Irian Jaya), this distinctive town is close to the Bensbach Wildlife Lodge (the lodge is 62 mi/100 km inland, among swamps and grassland along the Bensbach River). It's best to visit during the dry months (when the land will support vehicles) to see the area's wildlife. River trucks, however, ply the rivers/marsh year-round, offering opportunities for great fishing (barramundi, tarpon, etc.) and bird watching (birds of paradise, magpie geese, parrots, maribou storks, herons, ibises, etc.). Photographers, adventurers and anyone who loves the outdoors will also enjoy the chance to see crocodiles, wallabies and Rusa deer. Golf and tennis facilities are available. We recommend two nights. 400 mi/645 km west of Port Moresby.
