Ribe, Denmark, about 150 mi/240 km southwest of Copenhagen, is the oldest continuously occupied city in the country. Plan to stop there for about three hours. Many old brick-and-timber buildings are still standing; we especially liked the 12th-century cathedral that sits on the site of one of the country's first churches, built around AD 860. Ribe is also known for its strong Viking history; be sure to check out the Ribe Viking Center to learn more about the Vikings and their involvement with the area.
