The village of Wakefield, 31 mi/50 km south of Providence, is the commercial heart of South Kingstown and prettier than ever after a major renovation and beautification project.
Just north of downtown is the lovely mill village of Peace Dale, where a peaceful riverside park sits among the imposing brick and granite mill buildings and a beautiful public library. Be sure to visit the Peace Dale Museum of Art and Culture, which features a collection of native tools, weaponry and other artifacts.
