Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs

Overview

Introduction

This town located 130 mi/210 km west of Denver lays claim to the world's largest hot-springs pool (more than two blocks long), where guests have enjoyed a soak in the 90 F/32 C water for more than a century. There's also a therapy pool with 104 F/40 C water. Down the block from the big pool are the vapor caves, also heated by natural hot springs.

With a backdrop of snowcapped peaks, Glenwood Springs is known for its proximity to world-class skiing, including Aspen and Vail. There are also eight golf courses located within a 40-mi/65-km radius.

Glenwood Springs is the final resting place of gunslinger Doc Holliday (he's buried in Lynwood Cemetery). The town celebrates his legacy during Doc Hollidays in August, which includes a re-enactment of the shoot-out at the O.K. Corral. Don't get confused: The real O.K. Corral is in Tombstone, Arizona, and the shoot-out isn't what sent Holliday to Boot Hill. In fact, he died in bed, as his tombstone proudly states.
